Neebo, Inc. Partners with Copia Interactive, LLC to Deliver Unique Faculty, Student Engagement Solution
New Neebo Student Network offers digital and print course materials, supported by digital classroom and community experiences
LINCOLN NEBRASKA, SEPTEMBER 18, 2013 – Neebo, Inc. (NEEB*), an industry leader in solutions for the college store marketplace, today announced a partnership with Copia Interactive, LLC, provider of a socially driven digital content platform. This partnership will allow Neebo to offer a customized, interactive solution for students and educators and deliver a student network that brings students and faculty together through virtual classrooms and exclusive digital communities, while facilitating the use of course materials of any type, print or digital.
"The textbook market has begun the progression from needing passive book providers to becoming an ecosystem of rich content, organizational tools, homework help, digital note sharing, and social connections," said Jon Otterberg, Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Neebo, Inc. "Students and faculty aren't just looking for textbooks anymore. They want print and digital course material options and a digital learning experience that enriches the classroom for all students, regardless of the type of textbook they purchased. By deeply integrating Copia's best-in-class technology into our infrastructure, Neebo.com and our college stores will be able to provide students the learning experience they are looking for."
The new solution, coined the Neebo(R) Student Network(TM), will include Neebo-integrated virtual classrooms, collaborative online communities, and an interactive digital reader--all powered by Copia's innovative technology. The solution includes note taking, discussion boards, student and faculty interaction tools and the ability for educators to implement quizzes and other assessment methods for individuals or groups of students. Through the Neebo Community, students and faculty can create exclusive groups to interact with each other around any topic, including content, courses and/or schools.
"Higher education students have and will continue to demand choice in course material format. So, for the foreseeable future, higher education will happen in a 'mixed format' classroom," said Nate Rempe, Chief Technology Officer of Neebo, Inc. "Students can choose to use print or digital content in the Neebo Classroom, and both will be able to take advantage of digital collaboration, discussion and interaction."
According to the "College Student Tracking Survey," conducted by Crux Research, an independent research firm that tracks college students' purchase habits nationwide, 19 percent of all textbook units were rentals, and 5 percent were digital in spring 2013. Textbook rental units were up 5 percent, and digital units were up 1 percent compared to spring 2012.
"The mixed content environment of the Neebo Student Network highlights the strengths and flexibility of our educational technologies," said Ben Lowinger, Executive Vice President of Copia. "Copia is much more than its vast library of digital content--we provide educational solutions for the classrooms of today and tomorrow. Working together with Neebo, we will offer students a comprehensive, technologically leading education platform that will include all the content they need in the format they are most comfortable with, along with our suite of educational tools that will enhance and differentiate the Neebo Student Network learning experience."
